Born and raised in Alsace-Lorraine/France, Bernard worked as founding Executive Director of BALLET du NORD and Assistant Manager of the Festival International de Danse de Paris in France. Moving to New York in 1984, he managed ELISA MONTE DANCE and developed PENTACLE International, promoting dance and world music groups worldwide. Since 1999 he established BERNARD SCHMIDT PRODUCTIONS, INC. an international agency producing touring projects of contemporary dance and world music in venues and at festivals around the world for artists such as Prince DIABATE, WOFA! Percussion & Dance from Guinea Conakry, Erik ALIANA (Cameroon), SALIA nï SEYDOU (Burkina Faso), Boyzie CEKWANA (South Africa), EA SOLA (Vietnam), Cia Vicente SAEZ, Sonia GOMEZ and Miguel POVEDA from Spain including more recently French gypsy jazz band SAMARABALOUF, dance company Abou Lagra/LA BARAKA from France/Algeria and Compagnie Sebastien RAMIREZ/Honji WANG from France and Korea.
Following their initial 5 weeks of sold out performances in Germany, Austria and France during 2010, a Summer tour of France and Finland and first time engagements in Greece, Luxemburg, Poland, Bulgaria and the three Baltic countries during the 11/12 and 2013 seasons, AILEY II's 2014/15 international touring season included major engagements all over France, Italy and in Germany, from Leverkusen to Genoa via Bonn, Montpellier and Lyon, to name a few.
CPBC/Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporaneo successfully returned in March 2015 to the USA, at The Kennedy Center and to Scottsdale/AZ, with choreographer Vasco Wellenkamp's Fado, a 70 mns long work celebrating Portugal's traditional music.
Compagnie Herve KOUBI from France and Algeria, will make its US debut at the 2015 edition of New York City Center Theater;s Fall for Dance Festival on October 2 and 3, to be followed by major engagements in San Francisco, Portland/OR, Boston, Houston and Dallas in January and March 2016.
Following its second US tour of November 2009 in the South East (Miami, Austin & Baton Rouge), Cie Julie DOSSAVI is poised to return to the US with her new work entitled Grand Pere N'aime pas le Swing, a dance and live music duo she developed with husband Yvan Talbot during Winter 2011 which has been touring since then in France.
