Besides being a prestigious companion artist for various flamenco singers, CHICUELO is becoming a musician one can no longer pass for his master practice of traditional flamenco and wide sense of guitar rhythm. He has also been called up to work with the most relevant flamenco dance groups including Antonio Canales, Joaquim Cortes and Israel Galvan.
CHICUELO’s first CD at with Harmonia Mundi entitled Complices, includes 8 guitar works which were recorded in 2006 with inspiration and a few friends: on it, he doesn’t venture into the intricacies of some of the other flamenco guitarists and is rather sober in the alegrias whereas with Miguel Poveda, in an homage to Camaron (“A la Isla”), he demonstrates jazz tendencies, having listened to a great amount of jazz music in his youth. Finally, he developed a tarantula fantasia, full of Mediterranean tones, into a lullaby dedicated to his daughter, the closing piece of his CD. A highly praised flamenco guitar CD, which will capture the aficionados' attention!
CHICUELO’s second CD, entitled Diapasion, was released in Spain in 2007 by Flamenco Records, with an emphasis on the jazz sounds he personally enjoys. He is currently working on a musical production of the album Cante i Orquestra in collaboration with Joan Albert Amargos and Miguel Poveda.
CHICUELO’s favorite group composition on tour includes voice, viola, percussions, a dancer and himself as the flamenco guitar player.
