Bernard G. Schmidt was born in Alsace-Lorraine in France.   After obtaining a graduate degree in business management in France, Bernard became the founding Executive Director of Ballet du Nord, a regional ballet company based in Lille, France directed by the famed Alphonso Cata.   A season as Assistant Manager of the International Dance Festival of Paris, gave Bernard significant experience with major dance Compagnies from around the world.

Bernard moved to New York where he earned an M.A. in Arts Administration from New York University, and was the Managing Director of Elisa Monte Dance.   He joined Pentacle Management in 1995 to start and develop Pentacle International, a division promoting artists from around the world.

In March 1999, Bernard established his own production and representation organization, Bernard Schmidt Productions, specializing in contemporary dance and world music.

 His first independent effort was two successful North American tours by WOFA!  a percussion and dance ensemble from Guinea, West Africa in 1998 and 1999.   Fluent in French, German and English, (and nearly so in Spanish) Bernard's enthusiasm for dance, interest in world culture, curiosity about the new, and love of travel all contribute to his dedication to his mission.
