Elisa Monte Dance showcases the choreographic work of Elisa Monte, former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, who founded her own company in 1981. Bernard Schmidt Productions represents Elisa Monte Dance in all its International appearances. The company, which celebrated its Twentieth Anniversary in 2001, has visited over 35 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Monte’s first choreographic work, Treading, created in 1979, immediately identified her as an important innovator and contributor to contemporary dance. Her signature style is daring, intense, and passionate, and filled with a classical, athletic virtuosity. Founded on sensuality and sustained by an underlying steady energy, Monte’s work is especially notable for the expansive range of movement upon which she draws. |
